Love you sweetheart yet again

This weeks next big release is Jaaneman, the only other contender to the other big release – DON. Jaaneman basically is sort of old wine in a new bottle, but not that bad either. The first thing to tattoo on your mind, is that this film is the directorial debut film by a very good editor. Keep this in mind, while you watch the film.

Reel Life – Salman was married to Priety and is between getting a separation. The reason behind the split is because Salman plays a wanna-be, struggling actor, who just before the release of his debut film is told to conceal the fact to the world, that he is a married man. Without blinking an eyelid, he agrees and walks out on his wife, the very day she realizes that she is pregnant, though Salman never knows this. Priety comes from a very rich NRI family who makes sure that she goes back New York. Salman’s film bombs big time and he is back to his struggling days, though never entertaining any offer that is not that of the lead character. He however gets a legal notice that he has to pay his wife support money and this goes into quiet a big sum. Not being able to pay the money, he and his uncle stumble upon a clause that can get him out of paying his wife the money – the clause is that he only has to pay the ex-wife the money until she is single. Now in here walks Akshay Kumar, a used to be nerd in the same college as Salman and Priety. He is now a NASA astronaut, but still is in love with Priety. When Salman finds out about this, he sets out to help Akshay get Priety. The film is basically about this, with Salman and Akshay working together to woo Priety into Akshay’s life. Akshay never knows that Salman was Priety’s ex-husband, while Priety never knows that Salman is living in her vicinity helping Akshay to win her over. In the meantime, Salman discovers that Priety has given birth to his child. This, and some comments from Priety shake him and make him realize that she is still connected to him. In the end, like most Indian films, the two lovers unite and live happily after, while Akshay finds another love interest (this you must see, to find out who it is) and goes back into orbit.

Real Life – the thing that struck me the most here, is what I have seen many people do in real life. They put their own hunger before their loved ones. It could be a career move, or the smallest of opportunity wherein a parents misses their child’s day at school, simply coz they are invited for lunch at a business partner or bosses house. We all seem to forget that no matter what we achieve in life, it’s full value will never be touched if we don’t have someone to share it with – be it our spouse or even family and friends. Mankind has to awaken and realize that the most important value is that of love and companionship. So dear reader, should you be at the crossroads where you have to choose between your loved one(s) and/or a career / materialistic choice, think about it. If you HAVE TO go towards the other side of the fence, make sure that you have thought this out. Love seldom comes knocking twice. In the case of this film, it does come to Salman and Priety and they grab it tight – immediately. Because both of them realize the worth of what they had lost out on. I hope that you, my readers will never loose touch and sight of the good things and people in your lives.

Cinematically – Well as I said in the opening paragraph of this review, the film is directed by a film editor, so expect nothing short of magic in terms of edits. The film edits are marvelous, however very much over the top. I wish Shrish would have kept that subtle, but it’s really in your face. Salman is amazing, his comic timings and even the scenes when he is in pain, he carries it really well. It really makes you realize why this guy has such a huge fan following. He will swing from one extreme, where his is just doing the most stupid of things to the other extreme where he cries in his loneliness. In both extremes he takes you with him to each end, very well. Akshay, well what can be said about this dude. He really hasn’t got his fair share of respect in the industry. He has grown, over the past few years and is able to make you crack up, be a stud and of course still carry those action sequences really well. The chemistry between him and Salman too is great and is a plus point for this film. Priety is ok in the film, there really isn’t anything new that she does that we haven’t seen before. However I do like the way she has done a few scenes in the film. She needs to retain his bubbly-self but yet reinvent herself as she moves along her career. The cinematography is good, the music is ok. Shrish’s direction is alright, you can still sense that at the end of the day he is really a very good film editor. Nevertheless, go watch the film, it’s nothing great or new, it’s what we call in Mumbai ‘Paisa Vasool’. If not for anything else, then watch it for Salman and Akshay.
