99 leaves the strike behind and comes out in multiplexes…
As all and sundry know that the tussle between the producers and the multiplex owners has been going on due to the profit sharing issue, but amidst all, 99 got released this Friday leaving behind the strike.
The movie stars the likes of Kunal Khemu, Boman Irani, Soha Ali Khan, Cyrus Broacha, Simone Singh, Mahesh Manjrekar, Amit Mistry and Vinod Khanna. The movie opened to good response, as every movie buff was missing the major release since long. The film opened in the multiplexes and on the single screens across the country.
When asked the producer, why he released this film when the strike is going on, he said, “I was actually caught unawares with the strike. I had pre-planned to release the film during IPL because it has cricket as the backdrop. We wanted to release the film in mid April but keeping the producers’ stand in mind we moved the release to May first week. We were hoping that issue will be resolved in the meeting on May 5 but when nothing came out of it we were left with no option but to release the film. If I don’t do it now I have to shut down my company.”
Well, whether his decision of releasing the film during the strike was right or wrong, what matters the most is that the thirsty audience welcomed it with open arms.
