Ismail Durbar has done it again. He has ended up insulting one more legend of the music world on ZEE TV’s talent hunt show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.
In the episode being shown tonight in India (tomorrow in the UK), Ismail targets composing genius Khayyam by challenging his decision.
“A row arose between Ismail and Khayyam saab when the latter eliminated a contestant Jyoti from the competition. Ismail claimed Jyoti had sung well enough and that it was a wrong decision by Khayyam saab,” said a ZEE TV spokesperson.
“Ismail also mentioned that it was as wrong for Ashaji (Bhosle) to have eliminated another contestant, Sarika. Khayyam saab was naturally very hurt. He said he thought Ismail was insulting him, his music and his experience of so many years. He was very upset by his remarks. But Ismail was firm and got into a serious argument with Khayyam saab.”
When contacted, Khayyam tried to underplay the ugly incident.
“Ismail is young and talented. He shouldn’t have said what he did. But we sorted it out. I think Ismail’s job is to guide the contestants. And one has to be very objective about the judgement,” Khayyam told reporters.
“But often one gets emotional about issues, like a contestant from Pakistan… or a female contestant from the US who has left her child behind… These are emotional matters,” he added.
Khayyam, however, said that one can’t be emotional while judging a contestant.
“And after a judge gives his decision, no one can challenge his judgement. Ismail challenged my judgement and it was wrong. However I’d say he got emotional. He shouldn’t have used the words he did.
Having said this, I must say Ismail and his students are very talented. When this incident happened, my colleague on the judges’ seat Rajesh Roshan was abroad. So I was alone and, therefore, had a double responsibility.”
Commenting upon his equation with his other fellow judges, he said: “My relations with all the judges go back a long way. Bappi Lahiri’s father, Ismail’s father, Himesh Reshammiya’s father have worked with me. And Vishal and Shekhar are like my sons. I’d say there’re no losers and winners on the show. They’re all so good.”
Some time ago, Ismail made a mockery of Lata Mangeshkar by recording a song by her for a film that never got made. Lata is still waiting for Ismail to get back to her.
On ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, which he judges every week, Ismail has been regularly crossing swords with Asha Bhosle.

Ismail darbar gives descision on relogious. If a contestant is muslim he would be better according toIsmail and the guys of other religion are not good for him
Yes, you are right Rafiq. From very entry point of Aneek, he started attacking him. On his own eyes only Amanat is best. I dont know how much psychic he is. After HR’s request he stopped abusing Annek. But after the end of the Final show he has started again showing his true colour and character. He loves something else more than music. Such a double standard musician. If Sanjay Leela Bansali was not behind him, he would rather playing the violin steet side or as hands on studio.
ok pleez retards….ID is just telling the truth! It has nothing to do with religion! The fact of the matter is, that Amanat was praised by legendary HINDU musicians. They said he won the competition hands down. Its a fact that Amanat is a better singer than aneek and Raja. For GOD sakes he was No. 1 in INTERNATIONAL votes so many times. Knock Knock…but that means Whole Friggen world combined…now tell me HOW is Amanat in LAST place and Aneek is in first:S … Bull kaka. Even if Raja would of won it,it would of made sense since he did have the Indian votes several times during the season. Votes were rigged beta! Zee TV made an ass out of its viewers and ID just said the truth. So dont bring religion in to justify you being an ass. Thanx!
Ismail Darbar is right. They took the decision on Racisim basis. Amanat is the best but these silly racist ppl cant see that a Pakistani Muslim takes a first position in their country. So they fucked themselves and made aneek first, who is bullshit.
Amanat is truly the best singer among the three. All the composer judges know this and expressed it over & over in one form or another. The final voting result apparently does not do justice to Amanat.
But folks, India is a vast country with varried population characteristics and majority are not musically as sophisticated as most of the entertainment industry. The fact that Amanat is among the top three tells a lot about India and its secularism. Amanat, inspite of being the runner-up, has got the most musical contracts. On the street he is regarded as super star and he seems to be enjoying it and is very greatful to Indians and Zee TV. So what is the fuss?
Even if Aneek Dhar’s winning is a fixing by Zee Tv, I don’t see much problem in it except loosing the moral ground. After all Amanat got more than Aneek & Raja combined in terms of popularity, musical contracts, film makers’ assurance and judge’s overwhelming appreciation.
Amanat himself was extremely gracious in his speech after the announcement of the result. It appears that Amanat has more offers than he is able to handle at this time and has to pick and choose (see his interview with Rediff). Aneek has only one in Bengali film.
Most of all these three are best friends (see Aneek’s opinion in the Internet).
Think objectively, for an example, if people of Indian subcontinent could vote perfectly the right politicians to office (by and large) every time, these three countries would not go through such a political turmoil during last 60 years. Even America botched their voting rights that resulted in awful misery all over the world evident in recent years.
People vote not always objectively. Specially the people of the subcontinent are influenced more by emotion, patriotism, nationalism, religion, social classes & regionalism.
I was shocked to see few emails during the competition where the writer attacked the Bengalis mercilessly.
Probably same goes with other social, cultural & regional group in India, Bangladesh & Pakistan. That amply reflects the objectivity (or lack of it) in such a voting system.
Zee TV is here for a business of making money not upholding the moral ground.
What is the big deal here? Amanat became the real winner anyway.
Although, Ismail’s feelings may be right, but it was obvious that the VOTERS would create a PREJUDICE attitude, BECAUSE some one created FASAD by saying that AMANAT,MUSARAT ABBAS & jUNEID have refused to sing the INDEPENDCE song, the accusation moment was so sad that most the public who were at the show wept.RIGHT IN DEEP OF OUR HEART WE KNOW THAT AMANAT ALI was a winner. It is high time now that people in India should think HUMAN first and especially in the Music, sports, social etc field.

You cannot have people taking sides in a competition when they are supposed to be open minded when judging and rating contestants. Constructive criticism is good as part of the observation offered by panel members, but assign them to mentor contestants at the same time leads to immature bickering and patronization of the ones they mentor … like Himesh. This why sa re ga ma pa ended up being a circus in the the end, in spite of the fact that the contestants did raise the level of contest through their talents and abilities. Being biased invites this kind of problems. Not a bright idea to have mentors on the judging penal. People should be mentored in private and never be brought to the forefront since the competition will lead to elimination of contestants to yield a final winner.
