The plot begins at an active station in London. Rikki Thukral (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan (Preity Zinta) are waiting for their respective fiancés who are coming in the train from Birmingham. The train is delayed.
Rikki Thukral is a Bhatinda born, living in London; whereas Alvira Khan is a Pakistani, who carries a lot of attitude and a god gifted persona with her. Rikki and Alvira are unknown to each other but they manage to bump into each other at the café. They share the same table as the café is crowded and this makes a perfect setting for both the strangers to kill the time. They now start narrating their love stories to each other.
