In an informative interview with Aamir, he disclosed that, “The making of Lagaan is a huge story in itself. One day Ashutosh met me and gave a 2 minute brief on Lagaan. My first reaction was a firm ‘no’.”
Aamir adds, “I told him to make a simple film which would work out as Lagaan was totally different. More importantly, as Ashutosh’s previous films sank without a trace.”
After hearing Aamir’s initial reaction on Lagaan, Ashutosh got depressed and reappeared after a gap of six months with a complete script of the film.
