The strains of shehnai at the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding are a distant memory now and the IIFA celebrations at Yorkshire, where the Bachchans made a splash, have wound down. It is time to focus on Bollywood biggies other than Amitabh Bachcahn. We will start and end with Shah Rukh Khan (SRK).
SRK’s new film Chak De India will have a magnificent world premiere on August 9 2007 in Somerset House in London. This will be part of the Film Four Summer Screen program.
Khan, who is currently spending quality time with his family at their London apartment, will be the star attraction at the premiere and will walk the red carpet with the full cast of the movie.
The venue will be turned into an open-air theatre with a giant screen and state-of-the-art equipment.
Reports in the Mumbai Mirror say that besides the red carpet entry of the stars, there will be 2000 spectators to make the premiere a memorable one. Some areas of the venue will be turned into a hockey field and there will be music performances to add glamour to the event.
In Chak De India, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of an aging, but controversial hockey player whose life unfolds the story of the game in India.
In a parallel story, Mumbai Mirror says that Shah Rukh Khan’s previous film Badshah (1999) – after which he got the epithet attached to his name – will be the next remake from the Abbas Mastaan jodi.
The duo is reportedly scripting the sequel to this smart film in which SRK played a now-there-now-not-there character of a sharp-witted conman. But this is not an easy coup for producer Ratan Jain.
A source says, “SRK has moved on since this film was made and is a little reluctant to give a nod. “He works only with known producers like Karan Johar, Farah Khan and Yash Chopra. He has to have a script that appeals to him.
Karan Johar’s next as well as Shirish Kunder’s superhero film will keep him busy till next year.”
Badshah featured Twinkle Khanna, now married and the mother of a boy, as the female lead. She has now retired from films.
