EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI
Dharm marks the directorial debut of Bhavna Talwar. Bhavna worked as a journalist with Asian Age before educating herself with the art of film making and conceiving the plot of Dharm. The film was selected for screening in the recently held Cannes Film Festival.
The story of Dharm is about Pandit Ram Narayan Chaturvedi. He is a Brahmin priest and follows his religion cautiously, taking care of all the aspects of ancient Hindu scriptures. The Hindu believes in only one of leading his life – that defined by his religion.
He believes in all the methods and practices of the age old beliefs which categorise human beings based on caste, colour and creed. He considers his caste, that of Brahmin as superior to all other castes. He spends all his time in this social practice or in performing his daily rituals and prayers.
One day a child comes into his life and shakes the roots of his beliefs, which he had been following from the past thirty years. How does the child change the mentality of a Brahmin who keeps himself away from any change whatsoever?
