Producer: iDream Productions and Sony Pictures
Director: Parvati Balagopalan
Cast: Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Siddharth Makkar, Achla Sachdev, Daman Baggan, Ketaki Dave, Anuj Chaudhary and Rasik Dave
iDream Productions and Sony Pictures ‘Straight’ is ready for your viewing. Directed by Parvati Balagopalan, the movie features Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Siddharth Makkar, Achla Sachdev, Daman Baggan, Ketaki Dave, Anuj Chaudhary and Rasik Dave to do the acts. Presented as a comedy, the flick generates only few laughs and does not claim to be a hit or a worthy product to stay with.
Pinu Patel (Vinay Pathak), who is settled in London, is a successful restaurateur who runs an Indian restaurant there. He has crossed the age of 30. A simple and shy person by nature, he is still a virgin. Pinu is confused on his sexual orientation. He hires two employees in his restaurant, a girl and a boy and the three become good friends. Pinu is unsure if he is attracted to the girl in his restaurant or to the boy.His foster brother Rajat (Sid Makkar), however is a complete opposite of him and is a confident and extroverted young man. The girl named Renu (Gul Panag), he hired for a cashier job, is much beautiful and sexy. And the boy Kamles (Anuj), Pinu appoints, is a stand up comedian. Pinu hires him as a cook but gives him opportunity to do comedy to entertain the customers. These two new recruits change things for the better for Pinu as his business starts soaring. The three now become very good friends and start hanging out together. Soon certain things happen inside Pinu that he starts feeling that he may be having gay leanings. His brother Rajat advise Pinu to meet hot women and his meetings lead to other troubles. All the incidents make things worse for Pinu, who gets more confused and unaware of the right path.
Parvati Balagopalan, the director of the film, has selected an interesting story but could not handle the length for two hours and appears much shaky in his delivery on the screen. The three characters (Vinay, Anuj and Gul) talk a lot but do not try to come to the main issue and their talks seem insipid. Story is appealing but has flaws too penned by Uttam Gada but the script lacks hugely, which is written by Uttam Gada and Anahata Menon. Music is weak.
Vinay Pathak is great to watch. Gul looks sexy and beautiful and acts well. Anuj is okay. Rest of the cast is just about average.
On the whole, the film has nothing to rave about. There are just a few laughs to entertain you otherwise it’s a boring fiesta.
