Shootout At… scores over Cheeni Kum
Published by  Webmaster  at 06:19:05 pm on May 26, 2007

This week saw two big films releasing – Shootout At Lokhandwala and Cheeni Kum. While the latter is definitely a better film, it is the former that is raking in the moolah at the box office.

The father-son duo of Ramesh and Rakesh Sippy distributed Shootout At Lokhandwala in the Bombay circuit with 222 prints. The film took a terrific opening in Bombay city and suburbs by registering 80 to 100 per cent collections all over. Business-wise the film is expected to do well in metro cities.

In Bombay city and suburbs Shootout At Lokhandwala collected: Maratha Mandir (daily 3 shows) Rs 1,01,757, Plaza (daily 3 shows) – Rs 87,159. Gaiety cinema in Bandra Rs 1,22,932 grossed 100 per cent collections. Chandan cinema in Juhu (Rs 1,22,932) notched up 88 per cent; while Kalpana in Kurla (Rs 1,34,523) and Geeta in Worli (Rs 1,11,906) collected 91 per cent and 90 per cent respectively.

Audiences across the country found Cheeni Kum rather insipid. Though R Balki, the adman-turned filmmaker, showed his competence at the box-office, the film took a dull start all over. In the Bombay circuit 71 prints were released. The Bombay city and suburbian audiences dispelled mixed reactions. Sterling in V.T. collected Rs 56,866 (45.85 per cent); Central Plaza (daily 2 shows) in Charni Road collected Rs 20,972 (33 per cent); Galaxy Bandra collected Rs 51,139 (54 per cent). Even the multiplexes like Cinemax Growel (daily 4 shows) in Kandivali collected Rs 30,301 (43 per cent) and Cinemax Wonder Mall (daily 4 shows) in Thane collected Rs 31,918 (48 per cent). The film is expected to pick-up slowly by word of mouth and especially be liked by the elite audiences.
