Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is another product from the very successful Yashraj Films Banners. The film is directed by Shaad Ali, who had earlier directed Saathiya and Bunty Aur Babli. Both his previous films were box office superhits, and thereby, a lot of expectations are drawn from Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta and Preity Zinta in pivotal roles whereas Amitabh Bachchan will play the role of a sutradhar in the film. It is also confirmed that Shah Rukh Khan will also appear in a small cameo in the film but his role is kept under wraps. The trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has composed the music of the film, and Gulzar saab has penned the poetic lyrics.
The plot begins at an active station in London. Rikki Thukral (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan (Preity Zinta) are waiting for their respective fiancés who are coming in the train from Birmingham. The train is delayed.
Rikki Thukral is a Bhatinda born, living in London; whereas Alvira Khan is a Pakistani, who carries a lot of attitude and a god gifted persona with her. Rikki and Alvira are unknown to each other but they manage to bump into each other at the café. They share the same table as the café is crowded and this makes a perfect setting for both the strangers to kill the time. They now start narrating their love stories to each other.
Rikki begins the proceedings by talking about his first meeting with Anaida Raza (Lara Dutta) at The Ritz, Paris. The night saw Princess Diana and Dodi walking out of the hotel, as Rikki exclaims, “When two lovers die, another two are a born.” This is the start of their love story.
Alvira Khan had discovered her love at the Madame Tussaud’s museum. Steve Singh (Bobby Deol) manages to save her from the falling wax statue of Superman whose prime target was Alvira. Cupid struck them at the first sight. Steve Singh happens to be a lawyer by profession.
The delayed train proves to be too costly for the changing emotions of Rikki and Alvira as they get attracted towards each other. A quadrangle love story is in store for the lives of Rikki, Steve, Anaida and Alvira. The musical Jhoom Barabar Jhoom just gives the four people enough chances to encounter their feelings of true love.
The film is light hearted and carries a comic element in its story. Being a Yashraj Films production, the publicity is going really well with the masses and is bound to convert into numbers at the box office.
