Shilpa’s Metro starts of well at muliplexes
Published by  Webmaster  at 06:11:37 pm on May 17, 2007

The B.O. witnessed mixed reaction from the audiences as the two releases this week got a fairly good opening though the collections are not that promising. On one hand, the Shilpa Shetty starrer Life In A Metro.. got a good start at the multipplexes in the big cities, Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Good Boy Bad Boy’ opened well at the single screens. As, Metro earned good opening collections, Good Boy Bad Boy lacked lustre by the turn of the weekend and collections dropped down. Meanwhile, Spideman 3 continues to impress and Bheja Fry is rock steady as well. Though Saif-Rani starrer Ta Ra Rum Pum continues slipping down the collections’ ladder.

This week at the box office:

Life In A… Metro: The UTV productions’ film had the right mix of good performance and captivating moments though the script lacked the final punch to make it an overall winner. The multi-starrer film opened to average collections at the single screens with an overall 40% audience turnout. Metro is doing fairly well in the multiplexes with over 60% collections in the opening weekend and is proving to be an above average venture. The film’s collections are expected to gain moment by the next week.

Spiderman 3: After its first week at the box office, the ‘SPIDERMAN’ fever refuses to die down with collections soaring high in terms of a foreign release in India. The flawless film has already earned a whopping 20 crores nett in its first week. The Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst starrer film has also earned back all the Indian distribution costs and is moving up the day by day. The overwhelming box office collections proves ‘Spiderman 3′ to be the biggest release of 2007 till date. With summer holidays in full bloom, kids along with elders are expected to set the cash registers ringing for this mega release of the season.

Ta Ra Rum Pum: A well-made film gone soar due to the lack of a gripping script and uninspiring music that has doomed the film to be one of the mere average openings of the year. The Yash Raj film is doing well in Delhi NCR and Mumbai and selected multiplexes at major centres though the collections have dropped in its second week itself despite all the pre-release hype. The film has earned INR 4,38,66,202 this week with net collections of INR 15,82,58,462 and the collections are expected to remain steady or drop down.

Good Boy Bad Boy: Another release this week lacks the main ingredients of a hit production as the first week’s collections indicate a poor openind for this Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi starrer. The film managed to get an average opening especially at the single screens due to its catchy music and the ‘Emraan Hasmi’ factor. The film got 40% opening at most places.

Bheja Fry: The hilarious comedy has hit the bull’s eye as it continues to do good business despite other major releases over the week The film is doing well at the box office especially at the multiplexes and has already been declared a hit. In its fourth week, the film has collected INR 59,80,856 with overall collections of INR 5,14,15,658.

Namastey London: Vipul Shah’s hit venture continues to pull in audiences in its seventh week as well. The Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer film collected INR 8,49,308 this week. The film is steady though on the lower side with a net collection of INR 15,11,18,931 and has a strong hold in the Northern region especially in Western UP, Punjab and Haryana.

Yatra: As was expected, serious cinema filmmaker Gautam Ghosh got poor response to his latest release Yatra starring Nana Patekar, Rekha and Deepti Naval. Despite good performances, the film’s first week collections are very poor and it is expected to die down by next week. The film collected INR 11,11,849 this week at the box office.
