Movie Review: Karma Aur Holi
Producer: Drena De Niro
Director: Manish Gupta
Cast: Sushmita Sen, Randeep Hooda, Drena DeNiro, Naomi Campbell, Suresh Oberoi, Rati Agnihotri, Suchitra Krishnamoorthy and Deepal Shaw
Sushmita Sen’s much awaited film, ‘Karma Aur Holi’ has finally hit the screens. The legendary Hollywood actor Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena De Niro produces this flick, which was earlier titled ‘Karma Confessions and Holi’. Along with Sushnita Sen and her Ex-beau Randeep Hooda, the film stars the likes of international stars Drena De Niro and Naomi Campbell in the lead. The rest of the cast features Rati Agnihotri, Sychitra Krishnamoorthy and Deepal Shaw. Manish Gupta directs this venture.
It’s not a typical NRI films (as usually are witnessed), which focus on the message down your throat about how better India is than America or how one is struggling to find his own identity in the land of USA. And also it is not the engaging film, which binds you to focus on the whole duration.
A financial consultant Meera (Sushmita Sen) who is a yoga teacher also and her husband Dev (Randeep Hooda) run a publishing house. Everything is perfect in their life and in their huge house. One day, they plan to host a Holi bash for their friends and relatives at their new mansion. On the particular day, the guests start landing in before the Holi party. The guests, who come to adorn the event are: Meera’s ever worrying sister Vani (Rati Agnihotri), her mature husband Shekhar (Suresh Oberoi) and their 17 years old son Vikram (Chandan). Amongst others, the chauvinist Dr. Nimish with his docile wife Sujata (Suchitra Krishnamoorthy) and her sister Preeti (Deepal Shaw), Meera’s wannabe filmmaker friend Javed (Armin Amiri) and his girlfriend Jennifer (Naomi Campbell) , Dev’s associate Geentanjali (Maya) and Meera’s tarot reader friend Megan (Drena). As time passes by, the guests get involved in each other’s lives. The evening takes a dramatic turn when an unexpected incident triggers tipsy partygoers to confess their innermost secrets that have never been revealed.
Dashing off frankly, ‘Karma Aur Holi’ does not attract at all not even the plot of the movie, neither the screenplay nor the performances of any artist. Attempted as a serious film in nature wise, but when the viewer stays with, breaks into chuckles. Doesn’t it look sad, when you make a film on a serious subject and the outcome appears asinine? Yes, it does…!
Admit, when the writers have written this story (Manish Gupta, the director himself scribbles it down) and the screenplay (Marcus Guillory), it must have been appeared interesting but the fact is a fact that on screen, the writing reveals many flaws. And also the execution on the screen looks amateurish. Manish Gupta deserves thumps down, he falters badly.
Sushmita Sen appears weak as an actress. Wonder, what happened to her, as she is a good actress. Randeep Hooda presents a very bad acting. The veterans like Rati Agnohotri and Suresh Oberoi disappoint. Suchitra falls flat. Naomi Campbell is a appalling actress. Rest of the cast is boring to see.
On the whole, a poor film in all manners. Avoid ‘Karma Aur Holi’.
