11th October 2006 – The Mocha Film Club this October is showcasing an extent of Short Films on a 35mm screen with a coke & popcorn. Let October spread out the spirit with ‘Kalakaar’ by Tejas Deoskar is a humorous Chaplinesque film in good old black and white. The setting of the film is about 500 odd years back in India, before the existence of the rubber eraser. The movie has won the Best Film – Jury Award at International Cultural Exchange 2006. The story is about a very talented sketch artist who receives a commission to draw a sketch from the Prime Minister of the kingdom that he is living in. The film is for 12 minutes 20 seconds. Get cozy and watch ‘13th Floor’ by Luke Kenny who has been an intrinsic part of the television film and media industry for the past ten years. The short film is about two strangers, thrown together in a strange situation. One evening, in a corporate office building, due to a major power failure, two people happen to find themselves stuck together in an elevator- a young man and a slightly older woman. There seems to be no one else around – no one in the building and no help seems to be coming their way. The film is for 80mins.

Concept.
The Mocha Film Club in association with Two Plus Productions aim to bring quality cinema to the viewer. Started to propagate the cause of short films, which is a much-neglected format amongst filmmakers, Mocha film club aims to provide a platform for short filmmakers to come and showcase their film and have an interactive session with members, thereby giving all an insight into the filming process and allowing for healthy debate. In fact the film club is the only film club in India propagating the cause of short films.
Adda.
The Mocha Film Club meets once a month. The idea is to enjoy a good movie or two in a relaxed, lively and informal atmosphere, providing an ambience that is totally different from a stuffy theatre. A setting like this also gives members and viewers the option of interacting with each other and the filmmaker after the screening, allowing new ideas and options to pour through.
Memberlog.
The Mocha film club is an open forum, where everybody who is anybody, is welcome to join. Once on the club’s e-mail list, members will not only receive invites for each session but also information on film workshops, film festivals, events, and seminars that would be of interest to all avid filmmakers and cine buffs.
Phillums.
At the Mocha film club, ‘Age, sex, type, genre, format – NO BAR.’ There are no set guidelines for short films – no form that one has to fill up or little boxes that have to be ticked. The only one standard that a film has to pass is the I-E-I test – the film has to be Intelligent, Entertaining and Interesting. It’s that simple. The club screens short films and documentaries only. However the club follows a theme every month under which films are branched. In the past the themes have varied from ‘Spirit of Bombay’, to ‘Crime to ‘Animation’. Mocha film club tries to cover different genres under each theme, like documentaries concerning serious issues as well as international short fiction films. Infact, the Mocha film club is also associated with SAAFA (South Asian American Films and Arts Association).
For filmmakers, there are no set guidelines for their film – it doesn’t have to have an ISO 9001 certification or be one that has been screened at international film festivals. But the film has to be entertaining and convey a story. So any filmmaker who’s made a short film on any subject is welcome to screen with the Mocha film club. However, for club preview purposes, they have to submit the film to the club on VHS (MPEG Format).
So there you have it! India’s first and only club aimed at providing quality entertainment in a lively, intelligent and informal atmosphere. Catering to anyone and everyone who loves cinema.
