The tale of ‘One City, Countless emotions’ works. Director Anurag Basu is a story teller who has a rare talent of putting a story in the right frame for his viewers to visualize. Life in a…Metro has a very complex dimension given to the word ‘love’. The story is knitted with a lot of tales and fancies that happen in any urban city.

Rahul (Sharman Joshi) works as a call centre executive in a BPO in the metro city Mumbai. Rahul is a silent lover and admires his colleague Neha (Kangana Ranaut). Neha has rose in the ranks of the company not due to her commitment towards her work but it is because of the affection that her boss Ranjeet (Kay Kay) has towards her. Ranjeet wants Neha just to fulfill his physical desires.

Ranjeet is a married man. He has a 6 year old son and lives with his wife Shikha (Shilpa Shetty). Shikha is an educated urban girl who decides to give up her profession so that she could concentrate on her son. Soon, their married life turns into a bed of thorns and Ranjeet finds life in Neha. Ranjeet finds this cool and exciting and there is no commitment involved.

Meanwhile, Shikha is attracted towards Akash (Shiney Ahuja), whose wife had divorced him. Akash is a rebellion and a loser without a cause. Akash and Shikha’s love blossoms and she almost crosses her limits that she has so fervently guarded all these years.

There is a NRI story too. Amol (Dharmendra), a 70 year old man returns to India after a huge gap of 40 years. He wants to spend the last years of his life with Vaijanti (Nafisa Ali), his first love. Vaijanti is Shikha’s aunt and her pillar of strenghth.

Well, this is not it. There is another story blossoming up. Shikha’s sister Shruti (Konkana Sen Sharma) is a employee at Radiomirchi and is looking for her best man. She gets hooked up with RJ Wishy K (Gautam Kapoor) and their affair blossoms. She also meets Debu (Irrfan Khan) through a matrimonial website. Debu is ready to marry Shruti but Shruti loves RJ Wishy K.

In the meanwhile, Rahul’s dirty brain props up with a way to get easy promotion. He leases his uncle’s apartment to people who look for places to make love. Ranjeet too takes up the keys and moves into the apartment with Neha.

Neha decides to ask Ranjeet about commitment, to which Ranjeet disagress profoundly. He leaves her insulted and disgraced. Rahul finds Neha is a bad state and takes care of her. Slowly they get very close. But the mysterious Neha is not yet sure about Rahul.

Anurag Basu does well to handle the complex story but some parts of it still lack the awesome touch witnessed before in films like Murder and Gangster. The concept of introducing Pritam and his band in every song of the film does not add to the flavour of the film.

Some of the scenes are well crafted such as the entire track of Irrfan Khan and Konkana Sen Sharma and the track of Kay Kay and Shilpa Shetty. The frame just captures your mind when Shiney and Shilpa are about to get intimate. A very strong scene of the film.

On the other side, Kangana and Sharman’s track deserved better handling along with Nafisa Ali and Dharmendra’s climax scenes.

Musically, the film is rocking. After the grand success of Gangster, director Anurag Basu and music composer Pritam Chakraborty are back Life In A…Metro. All the songs gel well with the movement of the film and take the story in the right direction. The songs have an exceptional blend of rock in most of its tracks.

Performance wise, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay, Irrfan Khan and Konkana Sen come out with flying colours whereas Sharman Joshi, Shiney Ahuja and Kangana are average. Kay Kay is incredible. Shilpa Shetty gives a very good performance. Irrfan and Konkana are brilliant in every scene. Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali look beautiful and carry their scenes gracefully.

Overall, Life In a…Metro is a conceptual film which will really go well with the classes as well as the masses because of its performances and story.

Radiosargam Movie Rating: 7/10
