When star sons feel the heat
The general feeling is that star kids have it easy.
Amitabh Bachchan was the biggest star in India. So was Jaya Bachchan even before him.
Abhishek Bachchan was made for a good debut like ‘Refugee‘ but then there were dozen flops until some respite with ‘Yuva‘ and ‘Sarkar’ happened.
Amitabh‘s super stardom wasn’t of much use. But he somehow managed to hang on, thanks to the fact that he is the son of the biggest superstar from India.
Vinod Khanna was a super star too, and he managed to launch his son Akshaye albeit in a flop film ‘Himalayputra’. Akshaye went on to make many movies but never enjoyed the star status of his dad. This despite him being a good actor!
After a good debut with ‘Company‘, it seemed Vivek Oberoi would be a star unlike his dad Suresh Oberoi who was not a very big star of his times.
In spite of that, he couldn‘t survive in the long run. Angering many industry wallahs cost him his career.
Right attitude and professionalism is very important in any film.
Father Raj Babbar’s name and fame could do nothing for Arya Babbar. Same goes for Udya Chopra as the Yah Raj clout couldn’t help him in any way.
Some guys just don’t have in them at all!
Tusshar Kapoor has fared better but considering the fact that his father was a super star and he has a very powerful sister, it should have been much, much better.
He has managed to get either second leads, or has acted in films produced by Balaji. He lacks star power. The great benefit is that these people can manage to hang around, even when they are out of work, and not completely disappear from the scene.
Actors like the talented Manoj Bajpai perhaps would have had bigger budget films in his kitty, had he been a star kid.
Yesteryear’s superstar Mithun Chakraborty was a huge star and even a rival of Amitabh Bachchan.
His son, Momoh‘s film ‘Jimmy‘ finally launched after years of publicity, but it failed miserable thanks to the fact that the guy neither has the looks, nor the personality to sustain in B-Town.
Adhyan Suman seemed to be going the same way.
His link up with Kangana and the fluke hit ‘Raaz- TMC’ has helped him in a way though.
It’s important to be a good package with talent, personality and aura.
Rakesh Roshan was never a star. Hrithik on the contrary turned out to be a super star. Apart from talent, and dashing looks, he is professional and that has worked very well for him.
Saif Ali Khan is a good example of a star kid, who has gone on to prove, that shaping one‘s career professionally is very important, apart from other things. He almost disappeared, despite being Sharmila Tagore‘s son, till films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai‘, and ‘Hum Tum‘ helped him to remerge.
Fardeen Khan had Feroze Khan helping him, just like how like Rakesh Roshan devoted his time and energy on Hrithik. Still he’s struggling to find his feet. Zayed Khan too hasn’t clicked in spite of the family connections.
So basically after the first break, in which, they are judged by their talent and personality, it’s an actor’s professionalism, and career management that matters.
The sooner these spoilt kids understand this simple fact, the better it is.
