6. Anu Malik: From Copycat to National Award winner
The music director accused of plagiarism in Hindi film music managed to shun his critics after his memorable score in J.P. Dutta’s Border. Anu Malik went on win the national award for the music of Refugee. Since 1997, the composer belted out hit music in films like Virasat, Kareeb, China Gate, Baadshah, Fiza, Asoka, Yaadein, Aks, Filhaal, Main Hoon Na, Murder, No Entry, Fida, Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye, Jaan-E-Mann and Umrao Jaan. The ten years brought fame, acknowledgement and deserving respect to this composer with excellence.
7. Sonu Nigam: The chocolate face singer went from level to level starting from Border’s impeccable musical success in 1997. Sonu Nigam became a household name with his soulful and versatile singing. In the past 10 years, he even tried his hand at acting though with no success in box office debacles like Kaash Aap Hamare Hote, Jaani Dushman and Love in Nepal. Sonu Nigam is one of the most recognized and loved faces from the music world and has also judged the popular talent hunt show, Indian Idol.
8. J.P. Dutta: The super success of Border in 1997 gave J.P. Dutta his much needed Bollywood hit. Though post-Border, Dutta has not been able to deliver hits for quite some time now. His releases in the last 10 years include films like Refugee, LOC Kargil and Umrao Jaan. After trying his hand at patriotic films, his shift to Umrao Jaan wasn’t successful either. So, a not-so-successful 10 years for this noted film-maker.
9. David Dhawan: He’s probably the only film-maker who has continued to deliver despite the occasional failure in the last 10 years. After parting ways with his favorite actor Govinda and shifting to Salmaan Khan, David Dhawan resumed his unstoppable stream of slap-stick comedy and successful films at the box office. His films in the last 10 years include Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Biwi No.1, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and Shaadi No.1. There has been an immense improvement in the presentation quality of Dhawan’s films and they have more original ideas into his films than ever before.Keep it up!
