It finally releases, what many are terming star-kid Abhishek Bachchan’s biggest career test so far… so has he delivered… is Abhishek Bachchan now in the numero uno list of elite Bollywood stars… or does he once again disappoint… is the hype surrounding this epic flick just hype… does the film have substance… is it another Rang De Basanti… or is it doomed… have you seen the flick and have you liked it… is the beauty that is Sonam Kapoor a future Bollywood Queen… whatever your thoughts we would love to read them… so use the comments section below to send them to us…
I remember a young upcoming arrogant leading man telling he rejected Delhi 6 because he didn’t ‘understand’ the script.
So glad he didn’t do this film. Abhishek Bachchan who plays a Hindu-Muslim NRI returning to his roots in Delhi, gets the point. Fully.
It would be unimaginable to think of Delhi 6 without the gigantic cast of players who play who they do, and the way they do it. The vast cast is so much into the subtle satirical profound and parodic spirit of the film that you wonder which came first, the characters or the actors.
It would be grossly unfair to single out any of the performances. At the risk of sounding prejudiced mention must be made of Deepak Dobriyal as the innocuous Muslim jalebi seller who’s pushed against the communal wall, Pavan Malhotra as a loud boisterous somewhat mean though by no means evil electrician, Divya Dutta as the mohallah’s garbage collector…wonderfully warm in her caste isolation, Vijay Raaz as the neighbourhood sadistic cop who’s so slap-happy you wonder about his cheekiness, Atul Kulkarni as the naïve mohallah punchbag and finally Waheeda Rehman. So serene yet spirited as the dying grandma somewhat representative of the world that she comes to inhabit in Delhi with her grandson.
But the film belongs to Abhishek Bachchan. What a triumphant home-coming.
Delhi 6 is swarming with metaphors, some of them straightforward poetic , others like the monkeyman motif, arching from first to finish in a curve that defies immediate interpretations.
Peeling off layers of texts and subtexts, we arrive at a work that exudes the scent of true lived-in and experienced emotions. The hurt pain and anger of a socio-political system that has gone from corruptibility to destruction is hidden just beneath a warm sunny all-is-well(but not for too long) veneer so beautifully represented by Sonam Kapoor dancing with that dove perched on her head.
Delhi-6 is an unforgettable cinematic experience. A universal film in all respects, connoisseurs of good cinema will lap it up whole heartedly. It is that rare gem of a film that will be remembered and discussed for many more years to come. Very highly recommended.
I think Abhi has delivered in this film. i live in the United Kingdom and can tell you we all tend to look like he did when we return home to our parents villages.I also like Sonam and all the other actors. The film was well shot .I only felt awkward when I saw Amitabh and i WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE MORE OF THE LOVE BETWEEN THE TWO LEAD ACTORS.
After Hugely Successful and Very Well Made Movie Rang De Basanti which had well etched characters , brilliant screenplay, extraordinary script, great performances and patriotic message for today’s youth, very well worded and excellently tuned songs and music .The movie did wonders at Box Office. Aks also to back up Rakeysh — the expectations from Rakeysh were mountainous. But the movie Delhi 6 falls flat on all fronts except the music and mindblowing lyrics. It is a disastrous movie at Box Office — everyone involved with this project will be loosing . The movie was sold to market at a astronomical amount. The movie has belied all hopes. Better luck Rakeysh next time. You are a exceptional film maker and industry needs a Huge Hit from you .
i loved delhi 6 very much it didnt drag, it was short and sweet story with
such a big heart. i loved it very much, its not a film for people who enjoy
mirchi masala sort of movies. its a movie to sit down and absorb.
i hate to say this but people with brains will enjoy such movies, who
like a bit of reality, and not all fake. music well mr rahman has done it
again. the actors all of them, are fab, only complain i have that is why wasn’t there more time with sonam and abhi, thats all. Again I LOVED IT. People who like a bit of reality, and enjoy a sweet story. this is it. both hands down to om mehra.thank you!!!!
