Son Farhan Akhtar has urged Javed Akhtar repeatedly to take up direction. “Maybe, but at least not this year. I don’t know when.”

“I am writing a script but it’s for someone else. Who knows what the future holds? Maybe there are chances, let’s see. I am so busy with my other projects.”

His ex-wife Honey Irani, herself a well-known script-writer, had also tried her hand at direction with Armaan (2003), which had screenplay and dialogues by Javed Akhtar.
