After the debacle of Nishabd and the grand success of Namesake, Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu are going to be seen together in a ‘sarcastic love story’ on the lines of Nishabd. Director R. Balakrishnan makes his debut with Cheeni Kum, who earlier was an advertising executive. Tamil music composer and Kamal Hasan’s favourite Ilaiyaraaja composes music for Cheeni Kum.
Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) is a 64 year old chef and the owner of an Indian restaurant in London. For company he has Zohra Sehgal playing his mother and a 9 year old neighbour as his only friend. Buddhadev is a arrogant personality who thinks very high of himself and carries a ponytail to showcase his egoism.
One day Nina Verma (Tabu) walks into his restaurant and Mr Gupta falls for the lady. Nina is a refined character. She is a woman of substance and carries a smile which never fades from her glowing face.
Both of them eventually fall in love and decide to get married!! Now, the situation comes where Mr Gupta goes to Nina’s father to ask her hand for marriage.
The problem here for Nina’s father is that his son-in-law is 6 years elder to him.
The film has been shot extensively in various locales such as London, Delhi, Mumbai etc. The film is under production and may gather audience as it has a comic feel attached to it unlike Nishabd.
