Domestic Box Office: The week gone by couldn’t yield much for Bollywood as both the releases sank without a trace at the box office. The much-hyped Suneel Darshan film ‘Shakalaka Boom Boom’ got a poor opening all over with average collections at cineplexes in North and Mumbai. The other release based on a real life story and starring Aishwarya Rai got a weaker opening with poor to dull collections all over.
This week at the box office:
• Namastey London: This Vipul Shah film continues to do steady business all over. It is a success not only in North but also in Mumbai and West Bengal. The film continues to draw in audiences with Rs. 2,46,360 avg./print collections this week. The film is an above average at other places.
• Shakalaka Boom Boom: One of the releases this week has failed at the ticket window despite the pre-releases hype and hoopla. The film opened to dull response at most places. The attractive promos managed to pull in the young audience to the theatre at the weekend. But thereafter, the collections dipped low and has already earned the film a ‘flop’ rating in its first week iself. The film earned Rs. 1,80,587 avg./print this week.
• Provoked: The other release this week starring Aishwarya Rai failed miserably at the box office and opened to very poor response at all places. The film has fallen flat with discouraging collections as the film earned Rs. 1,50,071 avg./print and has already been labelled a ‘flop’ in its first week itself.
• Namesake: The Mira Nair film is slowly getting a foothold in the masala flick ruled box office and is doing steady business at major places. The film is a success at the multiplexes and has been greatly appreciated by a niche audience. UTV Productions film earned Rs. 1,16,915 avg./print this week.
• Vivah: Last year’s blockbuster film by the Rajshri Productions is still doing good business at many places. The film refuses to die out at the box office because of his mass appeal and family-oriented theme. The film earned Rs. 37,539 avg./print this week.
