Age matters in B-Town!
 Does age matter? Yeah, as far as Bollywood goes, it does!
Well in Hollywood actors can continues to work till his dying day and can also get paired with much younger women.
And actresses can sizzle till their forties much like Salma Hayek, Demi Moore etc.
Well, in B- Town Amitabh Bachchan is the only example. For women, it’s worse. A heroine’s career fizzles out once she hits her 30s.
Well, there are some who continue to sizzle till very late.
Waheeda Rehman and Hema Malini are still gorgeous. Dimple Kapadia has great taste and charm and looks lovely in Indian and western outfits. Rekha is stunning in her kanjeevaramans.
But they are getting to play only mother and aunt roles. A heroine’s shelf life is usually very short.
Of the current lot Rani Mukerji is an interesting example.
Not very long ago, Rani was the queen of many hearts with movies like ‘Black’, ‘Veer Zaara’ and ‘Bunty aur Babli’ to her credit. But she’s nowhere now, thanks to her wrinkles, old and jaded look and bad fashion sense.
Confining herself to the Yash Raj banner was another huge mistake.
Even her favorite banner is opting for youngsters like Ranbir, Anushka, Deepika, Minissha, etc instead of Rani and their other regulars like Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh, Kajol etc.
Well, Urmila’s age is showing and her dressing sense doesn’t interest anyone anymore. No wonder her career’s gotten over too. The rest like Sonali, Raveena etc are happily married.
The same is likely to happen to Vidya Balan after a while. She can’t control her weight and knows nothing about style. Bipasha is sexier but looks matured and wise beyond her years. And she doesn’t really get the whole dressing thing right every time. Konkona is a fine actress but is unstylish and can easily look older. That puts these dames in danger.
Shilpa Shetty has an amazing body and a good dressing sense, great PR machinery working for her, but the lack of good acting skills always came in the way.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the only actress whose career is going great in her 30s and after marriage. She’s in her mid 30s now and still has big movies with the Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar and hubby Abhishek with the best of directors to be proud about.
Well, her world-class beauty actually helps, so also the Bachchan name
Actually after a certain age, not many good roles are written for women in Bollywood. The audience also rejects old and married women.
For the likes of Salman and Shahrukh it’s easier but they too have to take care of the competition from the likes of Ranbir, Imran etc.
Our industry and our audiences have no respect for the old and those who look old.
It’s important for actors to understand this simple fact and act accordingly.
