Shilpa advising Milkha Singh
Published by  Webmaster  at 10:29:47 pm on April 8, 2007

JEEV Milkha Singh has been getting tips on becoming a superstar from Big Brother star Shilpa Shetty.

Singh is the first Indian to play in the Masters, and has already been voted sportsman of the year in his home
country.

And the 35-year-old has become friends with Bollywood beauty Shetty who won the Celebrity Big Brother TV show earlier this year.

“I met Shilpa at a tournament in New Delhi when she came down to the course to do an advert,” said Singh.

“She seemed a very nice person. We got on brilliantly. She handled herself well on Celebrity Big Brother and will be rooting for me at the Masters.”

Singh has held his own on his Masters debut, making the halfway cut after rounds of 72 and 75. He says the unseasonably cold conditions suit him, despite growing up in Chadigarh.

Singh said: “I love playing in the cold. I have played in the European Tour for years. I’m more comfortable playing in the cold. I like to play in the wind too.”

Singh is honoured to be the first Indian to play in the Masters. “I can’t express how proud I am. It was always my dream to play in the Masters, but now it’s a reality.

“The Masters is absolutely huge in India. It’s live on television and will be even bigger news because of what
happened in the Cricket World Cup.

“If India hadn’t been knocked out then the golf would not be so important, but my country will now want something positive to focus on.”

Singh is becoming one of the biggest stars in India, but he’s still not the most famous person in his family.

That honour falls to his father who broke the world record for the 400 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympics and became knows as ‘The Flying Sikh’ – but he missed out on a medal.
