‘Slumdog Millionaire’ now bags SAG award in Los Angeles…
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has been creating big ripples in India and across the globe. And after Rahman’s winning the Golden Globe and movie’s 10 nominations for the Oscars (out of which 3 nominations for A R Rahman), the film’s popularity has reached to every corner of the world. On Monday, the flick won the award for the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture’ at the 2009 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, USA. This made the film inches close to the Oscars.
The film, directed by British director Danny Bolye has also swept four Golden Globe two weeks ago, with India getting its first Globe with AR Rahman’s composition ‘Jai Ho’.
The movie is based on the Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup’s novel ‘Q & A’ and has become the Oscar’s favourite already.
On Saturday night, this enterprise also bagged the ‘Producers’ Guild of America Award’ with the film’s British producer Christian Coulson being named producer of the year.
AT SAG, the Bollywood famous actor Anil Kapoor (who plays the host of the game show in the film), accepted the award along with the other stars of this outing – Dev Patel and Freida Pinto. The much-excited Kapoor said, “It was overwhelming enough just to be nominated. But to win this is unbelievable. It’s unbelievable..!”
