This Friday evening, Star Gold presents the deadly combination of David Dhawan and Govinda in the super hit comedy film Hero No 1 at 5 p.m. only on Star Gold!
Rajesh (Govinda) thinks that his father Dhanraj (Kader Khan) is too strict and hence flees to Europe. On the other hand, Dinanath (Paresh Rawal), the patriarch of a joint family sends his granddaughter Meena (Karisma Kapoor) to Europe for studies. Rajesh and Meena meet in Europe and fall in love. Rajesh patches up with his father who agrees to go to Meena’s house to ask her hand in marriage. But as fate would have it, Dhanraj and Dinanath get into an unfortunate quarrel without knowing each other’s true identity. As a result the proposed relationship breaks. To rectify the situation Rajesh enters Meena’s house as a servant and starts his mission of impressing her family to win her over.

Before he turned to comedy, Govinda was nothing more than a competent hero of B-grade Bollywood potboilers who was featured more prominently in gossip magazines (which referred to him as “Virar ka chhokra”) than the films he acted in.
It was because of his partnership with David Dhawan that comedy became Govinda’s forte.
He changed his name from the staid Govinda to a more “jhatpat” Govinda for quicker identification.
Govinda’s style persona is the result of a long list of hero-comedians in particular Shammi Kapoor whose style he incorporates.
Govinda is an excellent mimic and this special ability enables him to add some special trait to each character he plays.
