The movie depicts what all aspects are not taken care of while making a movie in Bollywood industry. And also shows the fact that a script is not seen if the popular actors are roped in to enact the roles. ‘Luck By Chance’ also pours light on the issue of how a film shapes up into a kind of artistic venture as the inputs come from various life events of the makers of the movie. The flick unzips the Bollywood culture, politics happened behind the curtain and comedy to the viewer on the screen in a very apt manner.
The film tells the story of an aspiring actor Vikram (Farhan Akhtar), who is a son of a businessman, comes from Delhi to the city of dreams Mumbai to learn the art of acting at Nand Kishore Acting School. Vikram tries hi luck in the films. He joins the class of acting with other students and stays in a congested room with other struggling artists who are trying their luck to get the opportunity to join the filmdom.
Vikram gets attracted to a girl Sona Mishra (Konkona Sen Sharma), who has also been trying her luck to get the opportunity in the cinema world. Sona gets one chance to do a B-Grade movie but she wants something better to make her career on. Rommy Rolly (Rishi Kapoor) is a Punjabi producer who is making a film where he is launching the daughter of a veteran actress Neena Walia (Dimple Kapadia), Nikki (Isha Sherwani) opposite an established actor Zafar (Hrithik Roshan). Zafar withdraws from the film at the last moment. Here the luck knocks at Vikram’s door, who gets selected for the leading role opposite Nikki. The movie brings fame for Vikram who has to get away from his past love Sona to follow his dreams and as a result his girlfriend suffers a failed relationship with Vikram.
‘Luck By Chance’ is not just about the making of an actor but it also shows how ‘Luck’ changes every time in life. The director reveals the realities hidden from the common man in an absoultely attractive manner that a viewer loves to stay with such as:
- The wife of a producer’s taking decision on the under production films while playing the cards with her kitty friends.
- Rolli’s younger brother’s taking care of the film scenes.
The movie also has famous Bollywood stars’ cameos, who appear in various costumes and looks in the film. The writing of the film is simply classy. Zoya Akhrar deserves distinction marks for penning such a wonderful script. The beauty of the script lies in the point that the characters are picked up straight out of life. Some of the sequences deserve applauds like:
- Rolli breaks down when Zafar withdraws from the film.
- Vikram has a chat with Neena at a film premiere.
- Cameos of the Bollywood stars.
Zoya Akhtar very skillfully delivers the writing material on the celluloid like a perfect director though it’s her debut film. She treats the difficult subject with conviction. Javed Akhtar’s dialogues hold values. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is superb to hum it around. Choreography is brilliant. Editing is first rate. Cinematography looks appealing.
Farhan Akhtar is emerging as a worthy star in Bollywood after delivering magnificent acting performances in both of his movie – ‘Rock On’ and ‘Luck By Chance’. Konkona Sen Sharma is great to watch. Hrithik Roshan enacts the job with much aplomb. Rishi Kapoor does incredible work whereas Dimple Kapadia appears fantastic. Isha Sherwani seems in spirits. Rest of the cast impresses too.
On the whole, ‘Luck By Chance’ is an exceptional film, which will certainly prove to be a mega hit at the box office.
