Mumbai, Monday, 26th March 2007 – Mr. Anil Kapoor, noted actor & child rights ambassador for Plan India, a child centered development organization working with and for children across the country is hosting an exclusive preview of artworks at The Oberoi, Mumbai today.
Photographs by Raghu Rai and paintings by Satish Gujral, Bulbul Sharma, Akbar Padamsee, K S Kulkarni, Jogen Chowdhary, Sanjay Bhattacharya and Sunil Das were displayed in Mumbai at the event. Eminent personalities, Ms. Surina Narula and Ms. Ramola Bachchan played an instrumental role in bringing the work of leading artists on a common platform to support “Right to Education” and showcase their masterpieces.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Anil Kapoor said, “I am very happy that my association with Plan India has given me a platform to do something meaningful for the betterment of millions of children in India. I thank Plan India for giving me this opportunity to host the event & contribute even more to their praiseworthy initiatives for the children living in difficult circumstances and their right to education. I believe that education has long-term improvements and change can only be sustained if children are ‘development actors’: they participate, voice their opinions, they are not just passive recipients of aid.”
Surina Narula a London based social activist who has worked with street children worldwide for the last fifteen years who was honored with the prestigious Asian of the Year 2005 award at the 18th Asian Awards ceremony proclaimed said: “”The support we’ve received for our fund raising event in India is overwhelming. We are delighted that so many people support the cause of primary education.”
Ramola Bachchan, socialite and ardent charity activist, “Plan has been doing a lot of good work in India in the last few years and I don’t think enough people are aware of Plan’s contribution to upliftment of underprivileged children. We feel that this event would be a great opportunity to enlighten people about Plan’s activities. I am happily surprised and grateful for the support we have received from the art world”
On the occasion, Ms. Bhagyashri Dengle, Executive Director, Plan India expressed her gratitude to all the artists who came forward to support Plan’s “Right To Education” initiative.
Ms Dengle added “Plan India is galvanizing the energies of one and all in support of children’s right to education as a non-negotiable and supports the right to free education to all children. The right to education is at the very heart of Plan India’s vision where all children realize their full potential in societies, which respect people’s rights and dignities”.
