Why do Indians use the word fraternity – film fraternity that is – words SRK used when he came on stage for the Golden Globes to introduce SlumDog Millionaire ? Today Monday I saw on access hollywood the starcast of the movie being interviewed and only Dev Patel and Pinto opened their mouths to say something – in contrast Anil Kapoor and Rehman just stayed chup ( shut) . Surely they could have said something. Anyways sweeping the critics awards and the Golden Globes is a great achievement. I hope that Indian producers and production houses find scripts and produce films in English that can be collaboration with Indian and Hollywood actors. If we can deliver quality products such as one delivered under the direction of a British and Indian director like SlumDog Millionaire we can surely compete globally. And we do have good actors who speak fluently in English.
Look at Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek who have their ethnic accents and yet continue to make successful films in Hollywood.
I love all indian movies, for action I watch telugu, tamil etc, romance I watch hindi.. all of them subtittled of course .
You must admit that if an indian director had done slumdog it would not have been done that well…movies that involves flashblacks etc or a story within a story they cannot yet grasp the concept.. even when they remake an english movie something get lost in the translation..music is for dancing in most indian movies.. to make the sound an intregal part of the movie, to set the mood, a prelude to changes ? it will take a while.
