NDTV Imagine to roll out fresh shows this month
As NDTV Imagine in India celebrates a year on-air, it has announced a slew of new shows (including UK) to reignite the war amongst entertainment channels.
Recently NDTV Imagine has been unusually quiet but this is set to change later this month with a schedule overhaul.
The biggest offering on the channel will come in the shape of ‘Ghar Ki Baat’, produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment house. Two other programmes set to bolster the primetime line-up will be ‘Jyoti’ and ‘Seeta aur Geeta’.
‘Seeta aur Geeta’ is an adaptation of the Hindi film classic of the same name, which starred Hema Malini, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar. The channel is set to retain the original title, music and background score of the 1970s’ hit movie, having bought its rights.
Furthermore two Balaji Telefilms produced shows will also make their debut on the channel with ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’ and ‘Bandini’.
‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’ is a love saga in which a rich boy falls in love with a poor girl, who, by a quirk of fate, holds the boy responsible for all her problems.
‘Bandini’ is a story of an unassuming Gujarati girl, who ends up in a strange city, married to a man her father’s age, who has children her age. The serial is based on a Gujarati classic called Reithpankhi.
The two Balaji shows, ‘Bandini’ and ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’, will be the first to be rolled out – in January. ‘Bandini’ will occupy the 22:00 slot, followed by ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’ at 23:00. ‘Ghar Ki Baat’ will be a weekend show, to be aired on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Its slot is yet to be decided.
A source at NDTV Imagine confirmed to BizAsia.co.uk about its plans to rollout the changes in the UK: "We are revamping programming on our UK beam and are working on to include new shows viz: Oye its Friday, Raju Hazir Ho and Junoon in our FPC."
The channel will also begin screening Bollywood movies, which is something NDTV Imagine has stayed away from until now.
