The month began with news of two hot films signed up by an even hotter star. Ranbir Kapoor was the flavour of the month as he bagged films with notable directors Raj Kumar Santoshi and Siddharth Anand. For Santoshi he would be going all serious but in Anand’s it will be a comic-lover type of role. His new girlfriend Deepika Padukone would also star in this. Talking of Deepika, this lasso was chosen by Pepsi as their new brand ambassador during March. A role for which she had recently shot a TV advert that also featured Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan.
Two Bollywood beauties were in trouble with the government. Petite beauty Soha Ali Khan found herself facing legal trouble. It all started when her father, former cricketer Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, allegedly used a gun issued in her name to kill a black buck in the Jhajjar district. The gun license had been issued to Soha in November 1996, when she was only 18 years and 1 month old, and the minimum age limit for getting a gun license is 21 years. Bengal beauty Rani Mukherjee purchased a land near Shirdi which was found to be illegal. Rani had paid Rs 33 lakh in December 2005 for the land, but the land could not be transferred to her name as it was owned by the government and leased out to a farmer.
Another Indian hottie was also in a little bit of bother. Tanushree Dutta shot for an item number for Horn OK Plsssss with choreographer Ganesh Acharya and actor Nana Patekar. But she objected to the costumes that she had to wear. Tanushree filed a complaint with the Cine and Television Artistes Association (CINTAA) and, due to this, was replaced by Rakhi Sawant. The filmmakers insisted that Tanushree had signed a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from before shooting for the song.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan set a new record by becoming the highest paid Indian actress ever. She was reportedly taking home Rs 4 crore for her role in Rajnikant starrer Robot. One of the biggest releases of 2008, Race, finally released. It went onto become one of the year’s hits. Most of Bollywood was in Bangkok. Deepika and Akshay Kumar were shooting for Chandni Chowk To China, Ranbir was there for a Filmfare photo-shoot, Anil Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi and Amrita Rao were there shooting Shortcut and Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan for an ad shoot. The Bachchan World Tour got hyped up further as news came of Madhuri Dixit, Saif Ali Khan and Tusshar Kapoor joining up. Keeping the tradition of the sexiest Bollywood year ever, March saw the luscious babe Katrina Kaif going all green for the cover of Maxim.
