Movie Review: Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!
Film Critic: Goher Iqbal Punn
Producer: UTV Motion Pictrures
Director: Dibakar Banerjee
Cast: Abhay Deol, Paresh Rawal, Neetu Chandra and Archana Puran Singh
The duo of UTV Motion Pictures and Dibakar Banerjee returns again after the successful flick, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’. Their latest outing is ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ starring Abhay Deol, Paresh Rawal, Neetu Chandra and Archana Puran Singh in the pivotal roles. Dibakar’s characters are not rich, his films are not lavish like other biggies of the trade. But his movies always inspire..why? Because he tells the stories of human relationships and depicts the sensitivity of human behaviour on screen.
Set in Delhi, the movie narrates incidents in the life of a guy who makes a killing out of stealing. It traces his journey from being the gawky 15-year-old lower middle class Old Delhi boy to a master thief capable of stealing almost anything –including a cop’s bike from the police station’s parking lot.
Lucky’s (Abhay Deol) father (Paresh Rawal) mistreats Lucky’s mother and his whole family at home. Having aspirations and dreams, Lucky leaves the home in order to make his destiny by his own. Out there, he sees the world full of swanky cars with power windows and rich gals and all that. Here, Lucky forms his view, ‘if you don’t have it, steal it’.
The script is impressive. And the writers Urmi Juvekar and Dibakar Banerjee have used their minds perfectly to make the story catchy. If Khosla Ka Ghosla did wonders with the viewers, this enterprise also has potential to his the hearts.
Cinematography is great to watch. The music of the film disappoints not track has the tunes to get the listeners’ ears on…! Director Dibakar Banerjee registers impacts once again with his classy work.
‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ belongs to Abhay Deol who plays Lucky. He shows his class in this flick. Perhaps, it is the best acting of his so far film career. Paresh Rawal loots the hearts as usual. Neetu Chandra and Archna Puran Singh justify the roles.
On the whole, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ is a brilliant piece of work with great performances. It will certainly entice you.
RS Rating: 4/5
