Ashish Chaudhary talks about the loss of his family members
Bollywood actor Ashish Chaudhary has been speaking about the loss of his sister and brother-in-law during the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
"Till the last hostage was brought out by the security forces, the whole family was hopeful that they were alive and well. But that didn’t happen," says the actor. Monica Chhabria and her husband Ajit had been dining at the 5-star Tiffin restaurant on Wednesday evening when the terrorists stormed in and started firing upon them and fellow guests. According to Ashish: "My father got very worried and immediately called on her mobile. She took the call and told my father in a quivering voice that there were terrorists inside the hotel who were firing at people. After that the call got disconnected. We were totally confused about what to do next and whom to talk to. We rushed to the Oberoi."
Ashish then continued to try calling his sister’s mobile but without any response. The whole family at this time were telling themselves that both Monica and Ajit were safe. Ashish’s family waited outside the Oberoi hotel for over 40 hours, still clinging to the hope that Monica and her husband would be alive and well.
However, when the NSG stormed the hotel and survivors were brought out, Monica and Ajit were not amongst them. It was then that Ashish and his family were informed that Monica and Ajit had been killed.
"It’s shocking, really shocking. I still can’t believe that my dear sister and brother-in-law are now no more. I am completely shattered," says a tearful Ashish. Ashish is being consoled by close friend Riya Sen and Celina Jaitley and has received numerous messages of support and sympathy from the film fraternity.
