Turns singer for her own film; but not a career option, she says It might just sound a strange career move. Or it isn’t actually, if we are to believe Jaya Prada, who has just decided to sing a song for the first time. It happens to be a high-octane number for a film produced by her own company, Jaya Prada Entertainment.
Says Prada, “I was indeed nervous but Bappida (Bappi Lahiri) made me comfortable with the idea – somewhat. He said that he wanted me to sing this song. At first, I thought he is just joking, but he was serious. I gave in – not a bad idea I told myself.”
Interestingly, Prada has a rather sweet voice, unlike other actresses, and was interested in music too – these, she says, were the other reasons why she actually agreed. “See, first of all, singing isn’t my forte. It is a job best left for singers, but one should keep trying and reinventing oneself. I have been passionate about music, and if I get a chance to work under someone like Bappida and sing under his guidance, it gets all the more enjoyable,” she says.
Adnan Sami will be the co-singer. “Adnan is a fabulous singer. He is someone who knows music very well. So, again, I will be learning a lot from him.” Prada, who is also a politician in India, will be acting in this film as well.
“Don’t get me wrong, but I am not acting and singing merely because it is my own film. I had a good role and I was involved in the project very closely. This role will give me a chance to play with my looks. It is a very modern character,” she says.
Prada, however, doesn’t want to do more singing. “It was just a one-off thing. As I said, I am not a professional singer. I already have my schedule very tight with acting and politics, but if I get something good, I will think – singing takes a lot of effort. So, I am not sure,” she says.
