The eagerly awaited annual event of the RS Bollywood Awards will not take place this year.
According to the management of RadioSargam.com, the awards nomination process will now begin in early January 2009, with the submissions open until the middle of January. After this the nominations list will be drawn up and readers will be asked to vote for their favourites. This voting process will be open for two weeks. Once the voting process is closed, at the end of January, all will be collated and the results will be announced – on this website – on February 1st 2009.
Says ZK, CEO of RadioSargam.Com, “In the past, the awards nominations process began in early December, with the results being announced towards the end of the month. This did not go down well with many Bollywood fans as a lot of good films would release towards the end of December. And because the nomination process began in early December, they were not included. A prime example of this is Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par. It did not get any awards in last year’s list as it released at the end of December. The main awards were won by Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om. And once again, this year, Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini is releasing late December. Not even that, but Shah Rukh Khan’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is also releasing when the nomination process will be running. So because of this we have decided that the awards will skip 1 month, and will now take place in January 2009.”
As said above, Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor for Om Shanti Om last year. However, for next year’s awards he will be facing stiff competition from Aamir Khan and his Ghajini remake.
