Star Interview: Bobby Deol on playing Bobby Deol
Published by  Webmaster  at 11:53:22 pm on October 1, 2006

Bobby Deol talks about playing Bobby Deol in a film he’s just signed up, friends and offbeat cinema

Why did you agree for Nanhe Jaisalmer?
I found the concept really interesting. This film’s lead character is going to be a child – and that’s why it is called Nanhe Jaisalmer.

Not because you were to play yourself…
No no, not because of that (laughs). But it would be nice to play my own self. It should be enjoyable. This character is incidentally called Bobby Deol, and he is a star. But I don’t think there will be any personal touch, I am not like him in real life.

It’s not a brief role, like one of those where real-life stars do walk-in parts?
No, it is a full-fledged role. I am the hero, man (laughs). And that small child is the other hero (laughs).

What do you think will be the best part playing this role?
The best part would be that people in the film, for once, will refer to me by my own name (laughs). And they have to, because that’s my name in the film. That should be interesting. Otherwise, as actors, we get so many names that we forget about it.

Is Nanhe Jaisalmer an offbeat film?
It is fairly commercial. Anyway, I do not really believe in the genre of movies. I like working in films that I feel like.

Samir Karnik the director of Nanhe Jaisalmer, has a huge flop (Kyun Ho Gaya Na) behind him. Don’t you hesitate to work with filmmakers like that?
It would be ridiculous if I don’t work with directors who have given flops. As an actor even I have had failures. A director might have given a flop but failure can be attributed to many things. Why blame the director alone? There are so many filmmakers who despite giving flops make good movies. As for Samir, I have known him since Kareeb. He is a friend, and I don’t really know how Kyun Ho Gaya Na did at the box office. Nanhe Jaisalmer is a great story, and I think I should be a part of the film.
