Movie Review: Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi
Film Critic: Goher Iqbal Punn
Producer: Rajshri Productions
Director: Kaushik Ghatak
Starring: Sonu Sood, Eesha Koppikar, Alok Nath, Vishal Malhotra
Barjatya’s ‘Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi’ has come out now. Directed by Kaushik Ghatak, the film stars the likes of Sonu Sood, Eesha Koppikar, Alok Nath and Vishal Malhotra in leading roles.
The movie tells the story of Chandni (Esha) who belongs to a middle-class family, living in one of the tiny by lanes of old Bhopal. Chandni resides with her father and younger siblings – Anuj and Sandhya. She is deeply attached to her school going sister and brother and trained in classical and folk music. While delivering a stage performance, she falls in love with Prem (Sonu) who hails from a rich business family. Prem is an unconventional ghazal vocalist and is laced always with pranks. Everything looks smooth until one day Chandni’s father passes away. Suddenly she lands in the responsibility of being the eldest in the family. On one hand, her ‘mehendi’ adorned hands are beckoning her to the dream home for her fiance and the other hands are her siblings, whom she cannot take along with her to her in laws house. She now decides to sacrifice her love and leaves her marriage with prem so that she can be with her siblings. Her lover understands her and stands by her through thick and thin as she goes through her struggle. He then awaits her for 12 long years.
The film does not offer any novelty and does not even try to impress you. The music is okay. Although their movies are always laced with spongy music. The direction is poor. The script is the big letdown.
The cinematography is passable. Amongst the actors, Sonu Sood is just about okay. Isha Koppikkar enacts well. Alok is good. Rest is mundane.
On the whole, Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi is a time waste.
