The sacrosanct evening arti at Siddhivinayak temple was delayed by 15 minutes thanks to the presence of a different kind of divinity – Bollywood star and freshly minted Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty.
After landing at the airport yesterday, Shetty went straight to the Prabhadevi temple with her family, naturally. Though the temple’s officials were informed of her visit, they were at sea in the face of the media storm that Shetty’s appearance generated.
“Shetty comes here every Tuesday at around midnight but we have never seen more than three photographers. Today, hundreds of media people stormed into the temple,” said a Siddhivinayak temple official. Authorities are saying they may now frame strict rules for media presence at the temple.
There was apparently so much chaos that the prayer thali couldn’t be handed over to the actress. “We couldn’t even say our prayers properly. The media people refused to listen to requests to not move around the prayer hall,” said a devotee.
Shetty, with her father, mother and other family members, had to ask the temple authorities to provide security while escorting her out.
