For an NRI director whose majorly based outside, it’s assumed to be difficult to relate to one’s roots and ethnic heritage. But not for this celebrated directed of Indian origin. Mira Nair’s forthcoming release ‘The Namesake’ based on novelist Jhumpa Lahiri’s work with the same name, gives her ample scope to combine both the worlds of her life: Kolkata and New York.
The film which stars Irfan Khan and Tabu has been shot in parts in Kolkata, where it’s premiere has been scheduled for this Tuesday. The film will officially release both in US and India in another couple of months time.
The premiere will be attended by the entire cast and crew of the film including the renowned writer Jhumpa Lahiri, who even does a cameo in the film of ‘Jhumpa Mashi’. “The most beautiful aspect about Namesake was that it gave me the ability to unite the story of the two cities – Kolkata and New York where I grew up. I filmed the two cities as if they were one,” said Mira Nair.
