B. O. Update: Guru ruling the box office
Published by  Webmaster  at 08:49:28 pm on January 28, 2007

The box office in the past week saw the rise and success of one of the finest films from Mani Ratnam in the form of Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer ‘Guru’ and then witnessed the failure of a comeback film of Vinod Khanna in the form of Randeep Hooda and Tanushree Dutta starrer ‘Risk’. The other films that did fair business at the box office were Bhagam Bhag along with the strong Rajshri contender ‘Vivaah’. Dhoom 2 definitely falls back to the 5th slot though it continues its good run at the box office.

The top 5 films at the box office this week are:

• Guru: The Mani Ratnam film has given a new icon for the nation after the Munna Bhai as it is Gurubhai for one and all. The film is doing exceedingly well at all the circuits especially in the multiplexes. The film has been declared a hit after its week from its release. The film has earned Rs. 4,43,312 avg/print this week.

• Risk: The Randeep Hooda starrer from the K Sera Sera production opened to a lukewarm response and its collections kept on dipping low. The film has been declared a flop after its first week of release itself. It earned Rs. 1,08,600 avg/print this week.

• Bhagam Bhag: Priyadarshan’s film has been doing steady business while banking upon the comic geniuses of Akshay Khanna, Govinda and Rajpal Yadav. The film has taken off well after a slow start and is looking good with above average collections. It has earned Rs. 54,971 avg./print this week.

• Vivaah: One of the biggest Rajshri films ever has left behind even the Yash Raj’s Dhoom 2 behind as the film continues to catch the fancy of the traditional Indian. The film is a blockbuster hit from the previous year. It ahs earned Rs. 41,049 avg./print this week.

• Dhoom 2: The magic of Hrithik along with the sensuous doses of Bips and Ash continue to churn out good cash for the Yash Raj Films as it continues to pull audiences to the theatres again and again. The blockbuster film earned Rs. 39,620 avg./print this week.
