Lakme Fashion Week: Rahul Mishra weaves stylish touch

RAHUL MISHRA GAVE THE WONDERFUL HANDLOOM WEAVES OF INDIA A STYLISH TOUCH AT LAKME FASHION WEEK

Mumbai October 21, 2008: He has always worked with the handlooms of India – whether it is the Kerala cottons or the silks from Bhagalpur – so this time it was the rich handlooms of Madhya Pradesh that inspired Rahul Mishra to present an ethereal collection called “Let Craft Lead the Way” for the Spring/Summer 2009 season at Lakme Fashion Week.

Using the beautiful weaves of Maheshwar in unusual garment constructions, Rahul’s cool comfortable but very innovatively styled collection was lavishly splashed with the most interesting detailing techniques.

The pleating was in geometrics, the transparency of the fabrics was balanced by the satin lining and the subdued colours which were white, black, grey, yellow, turquoise, red with touches of gold in the weaves gave the garments an unusual fusion quality. Blending the western silhouettes with the Indian weaves and adding cording as a special ornamental touch, Rahul presented asymmetrical summer dresses, blouses, tops, and some flowing gowns. The layers of the organza fabrics for the creations almost floated around the models as they glided down the ramp.

Impeccable tailoring was a constant factor in the collection, as geometric weaves and cuts appeared for jackets over dresses with stylish large lapels, tie up outfits, one shoulder resort wear, a superb white ruffled dress, floor length gowns, degrade organza layered dresses with corded neckline and contrast piping.

The perfect Roman sandals were the apt footwear choice for the collection.

Once again Rahul Mishra got accolades for his designing skills as his collection will be in great demand with buyers in India and the west.
