A Cine Boutique Entertainment UK Ltd, Aron Govil Productions Inc. and the production of Arun Govil, ‘Shoot on Sight’ releases today. Starring the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Greta Scacchi, Om Puri, Gulshan Grover, Nafisa Ali, Laila Rouass, Mikaal Zulfikar, Urvashi Chand and Rohan Chand; the film has been directed by Jagmohan Mundhra. The movie is about the real life incident of London when a Brazilian man was killed by cops, suspected of being involved in London blasts. Although the story is imaginary but when you watch it on screen, you find so many questions unanswered. The film talks about the investigation, which is done on the killing of a Muslim suspect after the London blasts that is carried out by a London based professionally ambitious Muslim police officer. AS the investigation progresses, it becomes crystal clear that the killing was pretty unfair. The big flaw is that the killer cop is wrongly made a hero in the end.
The movie begins when a senior cop Tariq Ali kills a Muslim on a platform in the Charing Cross tube station. And here the investigation oozes out. Ali has an English wife played by Greta Scacchi and two kids. He has a close childhood friend called Junaid who is an extremist. As soon as the investigation comes forward, Ali cones under scan of seniors and media.
Soon it becomes clear that the man killed was innocent. The director makes the audience believe that Ali might have killed the youngster under pressure of his boss, who felt Ali was getting biased towards people of his religion as Ali was a Muslim born in Pakistan. And the story also makes the viewers believe that Ali murdered the young man because he liked to have a promotion, which was not achievable for the Asians in UK. One day, Ali’s nephew comes to meet him and here the association of Ali with his extremist Imam friend is published in the newspapers. In the last sequence the Muslim cops is presented as a hero in the newspapers and the investigation is imperfectly concluded.
Naseeruddin Shah as the investigating officer is wonderful. Om Puri is competent. Greta is great. The rest of the cast is impressive. The direction is ordinary. The script is just about okay. The film has no attraction for the audiences. An ordinary show.
