SHE may be self-hailed as the Angelina Jolie of Bollywood – but Shilpa didn’t have an easy ride to fame.
The actress chatted to Cleo and H this morning about her struggle to maintain her stardom in India, saying: “After my first film I was dubbed as ‘the next big thing’.
“But the media turned on me and there were times I hardly got any work. They said things like I wore too much make-up.”
But the 31-year-old beauty maintains her make-up artist was to blame.
Work also dried up during her romance with fellow Bollywood hero Akshay Kumar.
Filmmakers didn’t want to cast her because she was no longer marketable as a star attainable to fans.
But Shilpa looked thankful when she said: “In the last two years things have changed. Everything is a lot more open”.
H added: “It’s a bit like having to keep quiet if you’re gay and in a pop group”.
