THE mother of Big Brother bullying victim Shilpa Shetty is convinced the Bollywood star will return to a hero’s welcome in India.
In an exclusive interview with the News of the World at the palatial family home in Mumbai, proud Sunanda Shetty said: “It is already clear that she will be welcomed as a hero. Shilpa has always been adored here. She puts her fame in the country of her birth above everything.”
Sunanda vowed to fly to London to rescue her daughter if the racist abuse continued.
She said: “I want to march into the house and take her out. And if she leaves I will be there to hug her and tell her I love her.”
She also wants a showdown with the housemates who tormented her daughter—especially Jade and her mum Jackiey.
She said: “What I’d like to ask the members of the family who have been abusing Shilpa is why? They have acted like school bullies. If I meet either when I come to London I’d say the same thing but I am not going to hunt them down.”
Sunanda slammed Jackiey for being a bad mother. She said: “I have always brought my daughters up to be respectful of others. That’s clearly not the case with Jade.
“The people who have racially abused Shilpa are jealous of her looks and are clearly ill-educated.” Sunanda, 56, was at pains to add: “I don’t believe these opinions reflect that of the British public. We have been to London dozens of times and are always treated well.”
Sunanda said she was particularly sickened by claims that her daughter lived in a shack.
The living room of the Shettys’ lavish penthouse-style apartment is fitted with floor to ceiling mirrors and marble floors. Outside is the family’s Mercedes limo. Three security guards are on permanent duty to supplement the 16 CCTV cameras around the home.
Last night Shilpa’s wealthy father Surendra, 57, dismissed claims his wife was too ill with stress to travel, saying: “We are both looking to travel to London next week.”
Last night viewers saw Shilpa, 31, showing compassion to Jade, saying: “I didn’t want her to go with no one liking her. I hope she’s OK.”
