Shilpa has reflected on last night’s eviction in an outdoor conversation with Ian.
She told Ian: “In the diary room when they asked me ‘how would you feel if you left and do you want to stay’, I said, ‘I don’t know… I accept it either way. I’m prepared to go because I learnt that Jade has a great fanbase here and I know I have my fanbase in all the Indians and Pakistanis and Bangladeshis’ and, I said… ‘if they [the public] want to be in here they’ll keep me in here and if they don’t want me in here they’ll vote me out… so I accept their decision.’”
“I’m happy to stay as happy as long as people want me to stay,” said Ian.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has said that he is “delighted” that Jade was voted out of the Celebrity Big Brother house last night.
“I think everyone is delighted that we got the result we did last night,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “You can imagine the uproar there would have been in this country if, say, Keira Knightley had been being abused in a Big Brother house in India.”
Of the controversy, he added: “The main argument that my administration makes to attract firms to come to London is that this is a safe city which welcomes people of different cultures and therefore something like this cuts right across the work we’re trying to do.”
A visibly thrilled Jermaine has told Shilpa that it is “amazing” that the public voted Jade out of the house.
Sitting quietly in the corner of the garden, a smiling Jermaine said: “It’s amazing. The situation and how it evolved and what was said… and how her followers… it was amazing. Wasn’t it? Amazing. It’s just good to know that people out there still look for the good in people because I’m pretty sure if I was acting ugly in here I’d be out of here. It doesn’t matter who you are, you just can’t be cruel.”
Shilpa, who looked reflective, nodded slightly.
Shilpa has expressed surprise that the public kept her in the house.
“Did you think that you were going to be leaving?” she was asked by Jermaine as the two of them sat outside in the afternoon sunshine.
“Yeah,” said Shilpa quietly. “Because she kept telling me that, you know, she has a huge fan base… she was saying to all of us that she had so many fans and people come up to her all the time telling her how much she’s loved and she’s the 20th most influential person in the world.”
“That means nothing,” said Jermaine. “What took place was about just being right. Being right. And if you’re so famous and you’re wrong, you’re wrong… if you’re not famous and you’re right, you’re right.”
Celebrity Big Brother producers have denied claims that they coached Jade before she left the house.
Today’s newspapers report speculation from some fans that Jade was made fully aware of the controversy surrounding the show before her exit so that she had time to prepare her response.
Prior to her exit, Goody told her housemates that she knew why producers had banned the usual eviction crowd, while some viewers claim that she did not appear to be suitably shocked when informed by host Davina McCall of the worldwide controversy sparked by her behaviour.
A spokeswoman insisted: “Big Brother categorically denies allegations of coaching Jade prior to her eviction. She was treated as all housemates are when they exit the house.”
