Dutt’s lawyers urged the court to invoke a law which allows the judge to release a convict on probation if his conduct has been good.
A special court in Mumbai extended Mr Dutt’s bail until 6th February.
Last year Dutt was found guilty of illegally possessing firearms but cleared of conspiracy.
Dutt is one of the most high-profile of those tried over the 1993 blasts.
He was originally charged with five offences, including criminal conspiracy and possession of illegal weapons.
He was cleared of all charges except for that of possessing weapons. He faces a prison sentence of between five and 10 years.
Dutt’s lawyers have submitted testimonials of the star’s good behaviour by five prominent citizens of Mumbai.
The court has twice before extended his bail.
Dutt was arrested in April 1993, a month after the Mumbai blasts, and spent 18 months in prison before he was released on bail.
The attacks were allegedly ordered by the Muslim-dominated underworld in retaliation for riots in Mumbai in which the police were accused of letting Hindu gangs target Muslims.
