Movie Review: Drona
Film Critic: Goher Iqbal Punn
Director: Goldie Behl
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Jaya Bachchan and Kay Kay Menon
Goldie Behl’s Drona is finally released. Laced with a big star cast ranging from Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Jaya Bachchan to Kay Kay Menon, the film is picturised on time beyond time. It has special effects, romance, vengeance and victory over evil. The movie begins in the US and then budges the journey to the deserts of Rajasthan and makes an exit run into a never-never land where blue petals shower down on the screen creating an area of enchantment and incandescence without letting the spectacle dominate the characters.
When you leave the theaters, you are left with some confused questions, which need to be answered. Nonetheless the flick has some attraction for the audiences due to its super hero character. ‘Drona’ is an undoubtedly a stylish venture minus the impressive factor for the viewers because it could not generate that magic, which the earlier super heroes’ films did in the past like ‘Kkrish’. Reason: ofcourse…’bad script’.
The warrior, Aditya (Abhishek Bachchan) is brought up by a foster family, unaware of his real identity as well as the unique destiny that awaits him. There is a haunting nightmare that always keeps on distressing him. On the other side, there is an evil sorcerer called Riz Raizada (Kay Kay Menon) who is desperate to know of a deep secret – the secret, which is the missing link, in his grand plan of taking over the universe. But to know this secret, he will have to brazen out Drona. The day when Raizada gets to know that Aditya is Drona, he begins hunting for him. When Drona is about to be captured, a cult that believed that Drona is a Messiah come to his rescue. Amidst all, Drona bumps into Sonia (Priyanka Chopra) the leader of the cult, who depicts Aditya’s real identity to him. After that Sonia takes Adtiya back to the place where his birth had happened. The place is the ancient kingdom of Pratapgarh where his mother, Queen Jayanti Devi (Jaya Bachchan) would have answers to all his questions but before that Riz roughs up with them. Aditya now has no option so he accepts his destinty. Now for the sake of mankind he becomes the legendary warrior he was born to be – Drona. When the clash between good and evil oozes out and becomes dangerous, Drona gets to know about the mysterious secret and he is all set to save the world.
The director is letdown by the script, which is poorly written and has no worth for the audiences. Admit, the special effects are a treat to watch but what had happened to the writers when they sat to write the script?
Abhishek Bachchan has been saying that he is not the super hero in the movie…it’s his sexy guard who manages all the action.
Abhishek Bachchan does not attract in the film. Priyanka Chopra … yes..she has sparks to impress you. Jaya Bachchan is okay. Kay Kay Menon is the man who should definitely be raved about for his brilliant performance.
On the whole, ‘Drona’ is a stylish venture but with no powerful script to grab the audiences.
