Kiran Rao has finally found her first male lead for her debut production tentatively titled Dhobi Ghaat. Sources reveal that Prateik Babbar will be playing one of the leads in the film. The project will be made under the aegis of her production house titled Cinema 73.
It is learnt that the film will be made in the docudrama style. A source reveals that Kiran was impressed with Prateik’s work in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. “She took a very long time to cast him. Even though his name came up, she wasn’t too convinced if he’d fit the role. His performance in Jaane Tu was the clincher.”
Kiran’s film won’t feature any big names. She’s on the lookout for newcomers — with no film experience but who have worked in theatre. “The film will just have four characters and Prateik will be one of them. He is excited to work under Kiran as he thinks highly of her work.”
Even though Kiran goes independent with Cinema 73, it will still continue to function under the Aamir Khan Productions umbrella.
