For talented scriptwriter Anurag Kashyap, the offer to work with Mani Ratnam for Guru came as an opportunity to showcase his talent. But, Mani Ratnam had other plans up his slevees. Mani not only chopped roles of actors other than Abhishek but he also got the script rewritten.
Reportedly, Anurag Kashyap was upset after seeing the final outcome as only 305 of the original script was retained by Mani Ratnam for Guru. The original script was a stark reflection of Dhirubhai Ambani’s life and Mani decided to change the script completely to avoid any issues at the later stage.
“After Mani returned from his schedule in Turkey, he wanted me to change the script. He called me to say that he wanted a ’sea change in the script’. I would have helped him, but unfortunately I had to leave for New York at the same time, so he went ahead and got the changes made by another scriptwriter,” says Anurag.
