Music Review: Drona
Music Critic: Goher Iqbal Punn

Producer: Eros International
Director: Goldie Behl
Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Kay Kay Menon
Music: Dhruv Ghanekar
Lyrics: Vaibhav Modi
Audio: Eros Music
Songs: 07

Abhishek Bachchan starrer, ‘Drona’, the science fiction movie’s soundtrack is now out for your pleasures. Before stepping into the music’s review, it becomes vital to utter that this flick’s music is what has not been desired to listen by the music buffs. So there were not any expectations for this album. Guess…the makers might have known the listeners’ pulse that their heart beats were not waiting for the product, which is why they produced such an ordinary composition to hear. Apart from Junior Bachchan (Abhishek), the movie stars Priyanka Chopra and Kay Kay Menon in the leading roles. Dhruv Ghanekar has been roped in to score the music for this album, which has lyrics by Vaibhav Modi. Eros Music Records releases this soundtrack.

1): Drona (Dhruv)

The album starts with the title track, ‘Drona’ sung by none other than Dhruv himself. He lends his voice superbly and the playing of his guitar is a treat to listen. An immensely talented guitar player, he proves his mettle aptly. The song has potential to be popular with the club crowd because it is fast, energetic and catchy.

Rating: 7/10

2): Drona (Sunidhi Chauhan) – Redux Version

The redux version is laced with a funky feel and impresses too.

Rating: 6.5/10

3): Oop Cha (Sunidhi Chauhan)

Sunidhi Chauhan comes up to render ‘Oop Cha’, which is a pop number. She sings it with aplomb but what make it fall flat are the lyrics (mundane) and music (poorly arranged).

Rating: 2/10

4): Oop Cha (Sunidhi Chauhan) – Fair Play Mix

The remix version does not have anything enticing too. So avoid it immediately.

Rating: 1.5/10

5): Bandagi (Sunidhi Chauhan and Roop Kumar Rathod)

Having a touch of ghazal, ‘Bandagi’ attracts you ears. Sunidhi Chauhan and Roop Kumar Rathod teams up to deliver the lines. Both perform the rendition with low pitched voices. A slow love song, it does boost your energies. The lyrics and music glide on you.

Rating: 7/10

6): Nanhe Nanhe (Sadhana Sargam)

The song brings Sadhana Sargam to sing. A lullaby, it does not have any impact to register on your hearts. Her singing is just about okay. The lyrics are passable. So is the music, which has not been arranged as per the mood of the song.

Rating: 1/10

7): Khushi (Shaan)

The final song on the album, ‘Khushi’ carries the jazz feel attached to it. Shaan brings shining lights to this track. You will swing on the tune. Lyrics and music are fantastic.

Rating: 7/10

Conclusion:

Drona is a disaster all the way. It has no potential to create a niche in the listener’s heart. A few songs are worthy to stay with only….Rest is a poor effort by the musician.

Overall RS Rating: 3/10
