Movie Review: A Wednesday

The debutante Neeaj Pandey’s directed ‘A Wednesday’ has come out on screens. He film is undoubtedly the most influential venture of this ongoing year. Since it is laced with powerful content swathed with the brilliant performances by the luminous stars of high caliber. The movie stars Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill and Aamir Bashir in the lead. The flick is based on the serious issue of terrorism. ‘A Wednesday’ works high due to its engrossing plotline, and incredibly encouraging storytelling. From start to end, it maintains your interest level in full.

An anonymous individual (Naseeruddin Shah) makes a call to the Commissioner of Police Rathod (Anupam Kher) and warns him of six bombs being planted in the city of Mumbai. He threatens of detonating them if his demand isn’t met, which is emancipation of four hardcore anti-national terrorists. At first, Prakash suspects it to be a crank call, but his doubts are dismissed when he actually finds a bomb planted in the police station right opposite his police headquarters. The commissioner appoints his best men Aamir Bashir and Jimmy Shergill to hunt down the caller. He even hires a young hacker to help his team trace the calls and also the location of the anonymous caller. But all this fails so the commissioner decides to the militants and hand them over to the anonymous caller. Thereafter, the events take a peculiar twist.

Once the identity of the caller is revealed, the film gathers much grip. There are more twists to follow next.

Naseeruddin Shah plays superb as usual. Aunpam Kher is great. Aamir Bashir and Jimmy Shergill impress.

On the whole, ‘A Wednesday’ is undoubtedly a serious film. For the viewers, who like serious issue, it’s a treat to watch.
