Bappi Lahiri’s Jimmy goes to Hollywood

A top song from the 80s; Jimmy Jimmy (sung by Parvati Khan for Disco Dancer) has been used in a Hollywood film.

The Dennis Dugan directed You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, which stars ace comedy performer Adam Sandler, included the Bappi Lahiri song in the film’s soundtrack after purchasing the rights from music house HMV. Says Bappi about this, “This is amazing. I got the DVD of You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and saw it as well. They have given me the credit unlike last time when I had to file a case for my song ‘Kaliyon ka chaman’ after a US based rap band had used the loop of my song in one of their compositions. It’s a nice feeling as the ‘Jimmy’ song was one of my earlier hits for which we had worked really hard. As an artiste, it’s always a nice feeling to be recognised and appreciated internationally.”

Atul Churamani, Vice President, Sa Re Ga Ma India Limited (HMV), says, “We have a network of publishers across the world. The request to use the ‘Jimmy’ song in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan had come to us from the US. What happens is that our publishers recommend our work in certain projects. We have a network agency called Royal Network who worked out the deal’s details for us. I don’t remember the exact amount of the deal. It differs from film to film.”
